CENTER POINT – The teams couldn’t make up their minds on the floor so a coin was asked to decide if the Class 6A, Area 12 girls basketball tournament would be played at Clay-Chalkville or Center Point. It was flipped Monday morning and it chose Center Point.
According to Lady Cougars’ head coach Justin Haynie, the tournament will tip next Wednesday night at 6 when his girls square off against Pinson Valley. The winner will get Thursday off before playing the Lady Eagles on Friday at 6 p.m. for the area championship.
Final Area 12 standings:
T1. Clay-Chalkville (3-1)
T1. Center Point (3-1)
3. Pinson Valley (0-4)
No. 4 Clay-Chalkville and No. 3 Center Point split their regular season series with the road team taking both contests. The Lady Cougars won in convincing fashion on Dec. 12, claiming the series opener 48-37. Center Point got revenge on Jan. 13 with a 46-41 overtime victory.
The Lady Cougars swept Pinson Valley this season, winning by a 33-point margin in the latest contest on Jan. 9.
They’re scheduled for four more regular season games before tournament play begins on Feb. 4, two of them are against Class 7A rival Hewitt-Trussville.
