PINSON – Pinson Valley came out of the gates on fire, as the boys defeated Pleasant Grove 65-43 in a non-region matchup Saturday night at Mike Dutton Gymnasium.
The Indians scored 19 points in the first 4:30 of the game and jumped out to a 21-8 lead after a quarter. The Indians cemented their strong first half with a big third quarter as well, outscoring the Spartans by 13 in the period.
Cornell Hale led Pinson Valley with 12 points. Cordarius Reese scored 11 on the night, pacing the Indians with eight points at the half. Trey Minnifield flirted with a double-double, scoring nine points and ripping down eight rebounds.
The Lady Indians did not have the same fortune, as they fell to Pleasant Grove 75-43 in the precursor to the boys game. The Lady Spartans also defeated Pinson Valley in last week’s Jefferson County Tournament.
Pinson Valley fell behind 22-9 at the conclusion of the first quarter, and were unable to gain the momentum necessary to make a game of it. Laurel Uhomba led the Lady Indians with nine first-half points.
Both Pinson Valley teams will be back on the floor Monday night, as they play host to Briarwood Christian. The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
