CLAY — Both the Clay-Chalkville boys and girls basketball teams cracked the first Alabama Sports Writers Association top 10 rankings of the season.
The boys, led by first-year head coach Jeremy Monceaux, debuted at No. 6 in Class 6A. Coach Justin Haynie has the Lady Cougars off to a hot start that has landed them at No. 3 in Class 6A.
Monceaux and the boys have started the season 7-1, while the Clay-Chalkville girls are 10-2 through the early stretch of the season. Both teams get Class 6A, Area 12 play started Friday night at home.
The Class 6A boys poll: No. 1 Lee-Huntsville, No. 2 Carver-Montgomery, No. 3 Austin, No. 4 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, No. 5 Bessemer City, No. 6 Clay-Chalkville, No. 7 Pelham, No. 8 Woodlawn, No. 9 Scottsboro and No. 10 Paul Bryant.
The Class 6A girls poll: No. 1 Homewood, No. 2 Center Point, No. 3 Clay-Chalkville, No. 4 Austin, No. 5 Shades Valley, No. 6 Arab, No. 7 Lee-Huntsville, No. 8 Fort Payne, No. 9 Dothan and No. 10 Brewer.
