PINSON – The Pinson Valley varsity girls got their Class 6A, Area 12 season off to a rough start at home Tuesday night, falling 59-27 to rival Center Point.
A big third quarter in which the Lady Indians were outscored 14-3 buried them in a 30-point hole that could not be escaped.
“We had a real big third quarter, I think they might have scored three points in the third quarter and that really helped us,” said Center Point coach Ulysses Haynes.
Haynes had three girls reach double-digit scoring. Sakina Wynn led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds. Amber Rivers managed a double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds. Kim Parish also dropped 12 points.
On the other end, Pinson Valley struggled to find offense, scoring only 19 points through the first three quarters of play. A hot clock was implemented for the final eight minutes of play.
“Each (area) game is big because there’s only three teams so you can’t afford to get a loss, especially on the road,” Haynes said.
The Lady Indians welcome Huffman for a non-area game Friday night.
