TRUSSVILLE — The new track at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium is nearing completion.
The track features eight running lanes, two shot put rings, two long jump pits and a discus ring on the main field. There’s also a discus ring and javelin runway on the new multipurpose field.
The track will be home to the first Hewitt-Trussville Invitational April 17-18, 2015.
“This has been a dream of mine for 26 years,” said Hewitt-Trussville track and field and cross country coach David Dobbs. “All the athletes that have come through the track and field and cross country programs are the ones that built this track. Without their dedication and commitment to winning, the facility would have never been possible.”
Hewitt-Trussville Stadium was constructed by Trussville-based Blalock Building Company for $14,626,550.
In other news, at the recent Alabama Art Education Association annual conference in Montgomery, Trussville City Schools’ Laura Reichert was awarded the “Retired Teacher of the Year” award. Reichert was an art teacher for many years and now teaches part time at Hewitt-Trussville High School.
