TRUSSVILLE — Another slow start for Hewitt-Trussville led to its first loss of the season in the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic finals Tuesday night.
Rebounds were hard to come by for Hewitt-Trussville (6-1), as it fell to Fort Payne 40-35.
The Lady Huskies only brought down seven boards in the opening half and trailed 20-14 as a result.
Tougher play in the paint helped the hosts draw near in the final minutes, but the 3-pointers they made in the semifinal win over Mortimer Jordan were nowhere to be found in the finals.
Hewitt-Trussville only made three of their 16 attempts from behind the arc. Guard Gabby Hill made two of them. Hill led the Lady Huskies with 15 points.
“With a tournament you don’t have time to watch film and prep for games so we have to go back to the drawing board and get some stuff done,” said Hewitt-Trussville head coach Tonya Hunter.
