TRUSSVILLE – Hewitt-Trussville will not repeat as Bryant Bank Thanksgiving tournament champions; Pelham made sure of that Monday night.
After winning their tournament opener over Holy Family, the Huskies simply couldn’t score in the semifinals, falling by a count of 63-37.
A tough Panthers defense made it difficult on Hewitt-Trussville all night. The Huskies shot 30 percent from the field and only went to the charity stripe twice.
“We just weren’t ready to play tonight, but I give all the credit to Pelham, they just kicked our backside tonight,” said Hewitt-Trussville head coach Mike Dutton.
Dutton’s leading scorer was freshman Sean Elmore with 14 points. Juniors Joseph Williams and Josh Monski scored six each for the home team.
Pelham had four guys reach double digits on the scorecard. Point guard Alex Reese led all scorers with 18. Zach Allison was right behind, pitching in 17. J.T. Kepler and R.J. McCall added 10 apiece.
Hewitt-Trussville will play in a consolation game Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the upper gym at Hewitt-Trussville High School.
