JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson County Schools will honor 316 fifth-grade scholars from 29 elementary schools in two ceremonies Nov. 3.
The ceremonies will be at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Gardendale First Baptist Church, located at 316 Mountain Crest Parkway in Gardendale.
Being recognized from Chalkville Elementary School are Calin Adaway, Andrea Anderson, Khalynn Bell, Makayla Brooks, Kamarion Bullard-Scroggins, Kaitlyn Davis, Jayla Franklin, Alejandro Hinojosa, Julia Holmes, Jakayla Jackson, Kevin Lin, Madeleine Matherne, Michelle Martinez-Barrera, Derek Moore, Huy Nguyen, Kiara Rivera Ortiz, Mikaela Talton, Chloe Waiters and Jaylynn Williams.
Being recognized from Clay Elementary School are Ashlyn Barnett, Kendall Evans, Ashton Frye, Alanna Gaines, Caden Haynes, Timothy Holmes, Isaiah Jackson-Dennis, Dayana Juarez, Ashley Mazuca, Jordan McCants, Maci Mills, Samantha Nesbitt, Nakyra Peterson, Marie Phillips, Ryan Postell-Ellis, Jonathon Richards, Bentlee Smith, Allison Walker, Abigail Warren, Avery Wells, Alexandra Wright and Cameron Woods.
From Kermit Johnson Elementary School are Kayla Allen, Cameron Ambrose, Amber Bearden, Alonzy Bryant, Michael Campbell, Kaia Cantone, Samuel Collins, Caleb Crump, Grayce Davis, Carlos Del Toro-Urueta, Boubacar Diakite, Guillermo Esquivel-Zapata, Jamirya Hicks, Taylor Hubbard, Laila Hyde, Logan Johnson, Zachary Koehler, Charles Kupfer, Natalie Lee, Jackson McIntosh, Shad Molck, Caden Quick, Taborie Reed, Nicholas Reyes, Tyler Rice, Brandon Rodriquez, Robert Tate, Gloria Thomas, Michael Tinker, Cassandra West, Nathan Whitsitt, Salem Wilbanks and Kira Young.
Those chosen as fifth-grade scholars have achieved a high degree of academic success, which includes the potential to become a National Merit Scholar.
To become a scholar, each student earned a score of 420 on either reading or math on the ACT Aspire test. If the student made it for just one subject and not both, then he or she scored in the “ready” range on the other subject.
All scholars are in good standing and were recommended by the school’s administration.
