TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Council voted last week to shake up its council positions.
For the next year, Councilman Alan Taylor will serve as the city council president. Councilman Anthony Montalto will serve as council president pro-tem.
“Well deserved,” said Trussville City Council President Buddy Choat.
Their new positions on the council are effective Monday, Nov. 3.

For the past year, Choat has served as the city council president and Taylor as the council president pro-tem. Taylor has been on the council since 2012, while Montalto has been on it since 2008.
When the current council was elected in 2012, it vowed to serve in a one-year rotating basis for the leadership roles so that each councilman gains experience.
In July, the city council approved an ordinance setting council members’ pay at $750 per month, beginning with the administration that takes office in November 2016. Each councilman makes $500 per month now, and the council president makes $1,000 per month. Council positions are part time, and don’t include insurance coverage.
The rate of pay for all council positions beginning in November 2016 will be $750 per month, an increase of $250 for council members and a decrease of $250 for the council president. The reason for the decrease for the council president is a belief that the president’s duties are not significantly different than those of council members.
The current Trussville City Council consists of Taylor, Montalto, Choat, Brian Plant and Perry Cook.
