TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Cooking Club has won the Dreamland Bar-B-Que/Jr. Pitmasters Cookbook Recipe Contest, part of the Birmingham Public Library’s Eat, Drink, Read, Write Festival.
The announcement was made earlier this month at a reveal reception at the Birmingham Public Library downtown.
The club’s cheesy chicken bacon barbecue egg rolls recipe won the contest. The egg rolls were made by Daniel Dukes, Gavin Felts and Justin Newsome. Ingredients included chicken, bacon, Dreamland Bar-B-Que sauce, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, minced garlic, chili powder and egg roll wraps.
The other recipe made by the club was called “Here Piggy Pigg,” which included Dreamland rub, pork chops, bacon and Dreamland dipping sauce. The pork chops were wrapped in bacon. The recipe was made by Maddie Curd, Emmy Wright, Jordan Lynn and Bailee Adcock.
The club is sponsored by seventh-grade teacher Leigh Stovall.
