TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville Middle School art teacher Kristin Bloodsworth has earned a state award.
Bloodsworth is one of 10 recipients statewide of Artsonia’s Annual Leadership Award, which recognizes the teacher and school for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to arts education during the 2013-2014 school year.
According to a press release, the award “honors teachers who go beyond the classroom walls to encourage family and community involvement in Arts Education.” The award also recognizes significant achievement in the area of technology integration in the school arts program.
“Participation in a program such as Artsonia clearly shows a teacher’s initiative and dedication to not only to the field of arts education, but to cultivating family involvement and enhancing the learning experience of the students as well,” the press release states.
The press release states that Hewitt-Trussville Middle School’s online art gallery ranks No. 7 in the state of Alabama. That ranking is based on the number of artwork pieces published in the gallery, as well as the teacher’s ability to cultivate a community of fan club members who actively support the students and their creativity.
For the 2013-2014 school year, the middle school had 2,350 pieces of artwork published and 288 fan club members. There were 146 comments left for the artists and 28 artist statements about their artwork.
