TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Council approved a resolution endorsing a road improvement project located at the North Chalkville Road, Pineview Road, and Green Drive areas within the city limits, as proposed by the Jefferson County Roads & Transportation Department.

The council authorized Mayor Buddy Choat to convey a temporary construction easement and a right-of-way to Jefferson County.
“We’re very excited,” Choat said. “That’s a widening of North Chalkville Road to add another lane from about the Stone Gate neighborhood over to the interstate. It’ll help alleviate the traffic that backs up on Chalkville Mountain Road. It’s a problem the county has jumped on for us. It’s long overdue, and we’re happy to be able to have it.”
Jefferson County Roads and Transportation Department is embarking on a road improvements project (Project No. 37-20-007) on the North Chalkville Road, Pineview Road, and Green Drive areas within the city limits of Trussville.
During Council reports, Councilmember Jaime Anderson mentioned that the museum would be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Jefferson Memorial Gardens will host the 2022 National Wreaths Across America Day in Trussville on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the effort to support the Wreaths Across America mission to Remember, Honor, Teach about those veterans who served our country.
The Veterans Memorial is on schedule, and they plan to have the project done by the end of January for the dedication on Mar. 28, 2023.
Also, Choat explained they’re sending out the business license letters this week.
“A new thing Stacy and I talked about this morning, after the first of the year, there will be an ability for business owners to go online and do the business license online for the first time, and that’s included in the letter that’s going out this week,” Choat said.
In other matters, the council approved the following:
- Accept resignation by Board of Zoning Adjustments member Kara Steward, effective immediately;
- Appoint Jef Freeman temporarily to the Board of Zoning Adjustments, replacing Kara Steward;
- Proclamation Honoring the HTMS 7th Grade Huskies Football Team;
- Resolution to Award Bid for Replacement City Hall Annex Roof to Birmingham Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc.;
- Resolution to Endorse JeffCo Road Improvements Project & Convey Related Tracts 29 & 30;
- Basic SRO Course for Police Officers Daniel Swope & Brandon Brown, March 27-31 in Vestavia Hills. $990 registration fees;
- Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Phase 1 for Police Sgt. John Bryant & Officer John Goodrum, Nov. 28 – Dec. 2 in Birmingham. $1050 registration fees;
- All Things K9 for Police Cpl. Casey Shelnutt, Jan. 23 in Lenoir City, TN. $225 registration fee plus accommodations;

- Hired Ben Dawkins as full-time Recreation Leader (Grade 12 – Step 1), effective Dec. 3, 2022;
- Promoted Asst Fire Chief Keith McLaughlin as Deputy Fire Chief (Grade PS29 – Step 9), effective Dec. 3, 2022;
- Approved 5% Evidence Technician premium for Police Officer Duncan Hellums, effective Nov. 5, 2022;
- Hire Angela Hill as full-time Civic Center Accounting Assistant II (Grade 16 – Step 2), effective Jan. 1, 2023;
- Alabama Case Law That All Cops Need to Know for Police Cpl. Casey Shelnutt, Officer David Maddox, and Officer Jordan Brand, Mar. 27 in Hueytown. $597 registration fees;
- NTOA Supervising Patrol Critical Incidents for Police Sgt. Keith Fuell and Cpl. Bobby Tomlin, January 19-20 in Trussville. $608 registration fees; and

- Appropriate $3350 to the City Historical Board for the purpose of renting climate-controlled storage at Added Storage for 12 months.
The next city council meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m. at City Hall Annex, located at 113 North Chalkville Road.
