Laura Wilson Coker, 34, passed away on December 7, 2022, after a long and difficult battle against depression.
She was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. We remember her fondly for all our wonderful times together, for her amazing piano talent, her love of nature, her beautiful smile, and her laugh. Some of those closest to her affectionately called her “Wa Wa.”
Laura was born on August 7, 1988, in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in the Birmingham, Alabama, area and completed high school at Oak Mountain Classical School. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Furman University and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UAB. She worked for several years as an inpatient nurse at Shelby Baptist Medical Center and, most recently, as an outpatient clinic nurse for Children’s of Alabama.
Laura was deeply loved and is survived by her husband, Matthew Tyler Coker, parents Mark and Marian Wilson, and siblings Anne Wilson Wagstaff (Drew), Joseph Wilson, and Julia Wilson.
Her fight is over, and she suffers no more. She rests in Heaven with her Savior, Jesus, and those who went before her.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 11, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL 35235.
The funeral service will be on Monday, December 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Crisis Center of Birmingham or a fine arts organization of your choice.
