LEEDS — Leeds Main Street is excited to host Mistletoe on Main, a community event, this Friday, Dec. 9, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Downtown Leeds.
“This event is making all my Hallmark Movie dreams come true,” President of Leeds Main Street Kristy Biddle said. “There will be family activities, carriage rides, food trucks, live music, and more, spanning across all of downtown Leeds. Plan to arrive downtown early and have some fun with your family leading up to the Leeds Area Chamber Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Just type ‘Historic Downtown Leeds’ into your GPS, and you won’t miss it.”
Activities include games, ornament making, bounce house, kiddie train, cotton candy machine, letters to Santa, Grinch and Cindy Lou Who photo op, snow globe photo op, live music, food trucks, and more. The fun will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and lead up to the Leeds Area Chamber Christmas parade beginning at 7 p.m. After the parade, live music will continue on 6th Street until about 10 p.m.
Leeds Main Street will be announcing the winners of the Planter Contest. Over the past few weeks, decorations have been popping up in the newly painted red planters in downtown Leeds; Leeds Main Street invited organizations across the city to adopt a planter and construct a Christmas Tree ‘of sorts’.
“We’ve been amazed with the amount of interest this contest has generated,” Leeds Main Street Design Committee Chair Neva Reardon said. “There are some pretty creative trees going up, and we are looking forward to announcing the winners.”
Winners will be announced at the Ward Brothers Stage on 6th Street following the Christmas parade around 8 p.m.
The overall goal for this event is to encourage people to experience downtown Leeds, shop locally, and serve as an appreciation of Leeds, Alabama. People near and far are invited to feel the quaintness and community that Leeds is so proud of.
“We want to show our love for the town and the people of Leeds,” Promotions Committee Chair Jessica Kennedy said. “In the spirit of the season, we wanted to promote the idea that we can accomplish big things together as a community.”
In June 2022, Leeds Main Street received a Main Street Alabama Designation. Leeds Main Street is a community-led, non-profit organization focused on revitalizing its downtown district.
Since its designation in June of this year, there are four net new businesses in the downtown district, four new jobs created, $139,478 of private dollars invested in downtown, and over 1,200 volunteer hours accumulated. Leeds Main Street is committed to the Leeds community and focused on making meaningful change.
