BIRMINGHAM — Two people were injured, and one person was killed during an apparent shootout in Birmingham on Friday, Dec. 2, at approximately 8 p.m.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), Cornelius Arthour May Jr., 20, of Birmingham, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a shooting at a Chevron located at 1525 Finley Boulevard.
North Precinct officers were dispatched on a report of multiple people shooting at one another. The call was updated to multiple people shot.
“Officers arrived on the scene and observed a vehicle across the street from the Chevron, which had collided with a tree,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “Upon further investigation, officers observed an adult female victim inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.”
Fitzgerald stated that officers also observed May inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Additionally, officers located a third gunshot wound victim (adult male) walking near the area.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) arrived on the scene and pronounced May dead. BFR transported the remaining two gunshot wound victims to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The preliminary investigation suggests there was some sort of shootout in the 1600 Block of Finley Boulevard. At this time, we believe the victims were targeted,” Fitzgerald stated.
Currently, we have no one in custody.
