PINSON – The Pinson City Council discussed and unanimously adopted a proposed budget for the 2022/2023 fiscal year at its Thursday, July 21, regular council meeting.
The new budget shows a proposed total revenue of $7,473,992.55 and a proposed total expenditure of $4,182,657.96.
“What I have budgeted here, at $4,182,657.96, is about an 83% budget,” Mayor Joe Cochran said during pre-council. “Bearing in mind, that other 17%, the lion’s share of that is the money that we expect to come in from federal government, which we haven’t decided where we’re going to spend yet. So, it’s in the budget, but not budgeted, if that make sense.”
The council has discussed potential Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting dates for the last several meetings, and finally settled on Dec. 1 as the date for the 2022 Christmas Parade. A theme has yet to be determined.
Cochran said that the council has been careful in their consideration to not choose a date that would conflict with Blount County, Clay, Center Point or Trussville.
Councilor John Churchwell read a proclamation, which the council then voted to adopt, regarding the 50th anniversary of First Baptist Church Pinson’s Kindergarten and Daycare.
“Whereas, … September 5, 2022, marks the 50th Anniversary of the First Baptist Church Pinson Kindergarten, later to be known as First Baptist Church Pinson Daycare/Kindergarten, which was and continues to be dedicated to the service of God, the children of this community, and their families,” the proclamation states,” and “whereas, we give pause, honor, and praise this day for the deep and abiding Christian commitment of those who in faith began this ministry … and whereas, our entire community has benefitted from the love and service along with Christian influence this church has exerted through the years … it is a pleasure to extend this expression of our esteem and best wishes to the members of this School on the memorable occasion of this 50th Anniversary …”
FBCP Interim Associate Pastor Brian Suttles spoke to the council about the Daycare/Kindergarten’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, which will be held on Aug. 13, 2022, at Pinson Bicentennial Park from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.
“That day, we’ll have the traditional birthday cake, we’ll have some bouncy houses, we’ll have some food trucks,” Suttles said. “(We’re) looking forward just to a great day and thankful for council members here helping me get a proclamation. … Come hang out with us and help us celebrate the First Baptist Church Pinson Daycare/Kindergarten turning 50 years old.”
Mayor Cochran said that he and the council will formally present the proclamation to the FBCP Daycare/Kindergarten at the anniversary celebration.
