William Richard “Dick” Garris, 77, of Pinson, passed away on July 9, 2022.
He was a native of Jasper. He attended Walker County High School, joined the US Army in 1966, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a master electrician. He worked for Stockham Valves of Birmingham for 17 years before serving the city of Birmingham for 17 years prior to retirement.
Dick was a proud veteran and member of the American Legion Post 113, where he served as Commander for several years and former trustee for Tarrant Veteran Memorial Park in Tarrant, AL. He was a loving husband, father, and an extremely proud “Papa.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank Garris and Cora Bowles Garris; a sister, Gwen Hall; brothers, Charles “Bud” Garris and Joe Garris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Audrey “Annette” Garris; his children, Tina Garris Lopresti (Mark) and Richard M. Garris (Stacie); his five grandchildren, Blake Hamilton (Kristi), Melissa Lopresti, and Laura Lopresti, Jack Garris, and Annie Garris; one great-grandson, Ty Hamilton; a brother, Jimmy Garris, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation from friends and family was held at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville on Thursday, July 14, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
