TRUSSVILLE — Shay Shelnutt is projected to easily win re-election to the Alabama State Senate.
Shelnutt, senator for District 17, which includes Trussville and the surrounding areas, has a commanding lead of 14,316 votes to Mike Dunn’s 6,574 with 73 percent of precincts reporting in.
Shelnutt was first elected in 2014. He is the chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee and serves on the Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee and the Finance and Taxation General Fund Committee as well as holding several other committee assignments.
He is a graduate of Pinson Valley High School and attended Montevallo for both undergrad and graduate school.
