CENTER POINT — Center Point resident Stephanie Floyd reminded the council on April 7 about her candidacy with the Jefferson County Board of Education.
“I am actually coming to you as a reminder that I am your candidate for the Jefferson County Board of Education District 3,” Floyd said. “I had an opportunity to come by a few weeks ago but I wanted to make sure I came back to you to visit today to keep my name top of mind for you.”
Floyd mentioned to the council about the U.S. Senate’s confirmation about Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman to join the Supreme Court and how the NAACP was involved to make the historic event happen for the people of color.
“What that that means is that we are going to be actually casting our ballot on May 24th, on instead of an at large election, on a district wide election,” Floyd said. So that means at this point, we will have more of an opportunity to put someone in a position that represents our children. What that means is, citizens that are in Irondale, Center Point, Pinson, Fultondale, will have an opportunity now to participate in an election that is more fair and has more of an equitable approach towards the elections.”
Floyd told the council she believes the residents of Center Point and surrounding areas will have the opportunity in May to put someone in a position to represent their children, someone that resides in the area and knows what the needs of their communities are.
