From The Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Twelfth Annual Birmingham Bible Reading Marathon (BBRM) is planned for Thursdays, May 5, 2022, at 8 a.m., continuing until Sunday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m.
The event will occur at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church located at 90 Parkway Drive in Trussville. BBRM will publicly read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation for 82 continuous hours, without commentary. Reading will be in 15-minute increments. Individuals may sign up for one or two increments, or a group may sign up for a block of time. Everyone is welcome to participate by reading or listening.
A large print Bible (NIV) will be available; however, readers are invited to read from their own Bible and in their native language.
The BBRM will be one of many going on simultaneously throughout the country, including one that has been held every year since 1990 in Washington, D.C. In the state of Alabama, Bible Reading Marathons are held in Birmingham, Heflin, Tuscaloosa, Troy, Ozark, and Montgomery.
People of all ages are invited to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Individuals, churches, school groups, and families who sign up will take their turn to read aloud a portion of the Scriptures. The Birmingham Marathon was started 12 years ago.
BBRM is asking churches to take a two to four-hour block of time. A church can fill that slot in any way they want. Some churches have only four readers reading for 15 to 30 minutes and rotating. Other churches have as many as 16 to 20 readers.
