SPRINGVILLE — Peter Bessiere stepped up with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning on a 2-2 count and the Springville Tigers won their first game of the season by beating Clay-Chalkville 10-9.
Springville built a four-run lead in the second inning and then fought off the Cougar comeback over the next few innings, and the Tigers needed a three-run rally of their own in the final frame.
The Tigers opened up the scoring in the first when Caleb McCarty drove in two runs on a single, and then they took a 4-0 lead into the top of the third.
Clay-Chalkville would answer with six runs in that inning to take the lead, and then the teams traded blows until the Tigers were able to come from behind to win it with the walk-off hit.
