From The Tribune staff reports
BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service indicates the possibility of slushy accumulations of snow and ice on the roadways this weekend, which could affect driving conditions.
The Alabama Department of Transportation states that staffers will monitor the weather and will be prepared to respond quickly and in a safe manner to ensure all roads are safe for the traveling public.
“We urge drivers to use caution while traveling during the adverse winter conditions,” ALDOT public information officer Linda Crockett stated via a press release.
ALDOT advised motorists to check driving conditions at ALGOtraffic.com or use the ALGO app for up-to-date information before departing.
Drivers are also encouraged to check with their county or municipality for conditions on county and local roadways, according to the press release. Appropriate driving speeds are determined by the road conditions, which on wet or icy roads should be slower than the posted speed limit. Motorists should slow down and move over, if possible, when approaching highway maintenance personnel and emergency vehicles.
