BIRMINGHAM — Police here report that two people have been killed by gunfire at 16th Way S.W. and Matt Leonard Drive. Sgt. Rod Mauldin told AL.com that West Precinct officers originally responded to the call of a person shot.
Officers discovered a male shooting victim lying in the roadway close to a motorcycle. The victim was was pronounced dead at the scene.
Polices discovered an abandoned vehicle nearby, which they believe was the vehicle the shooter or shooters used.
Shortly after discovering the male victim, authorities discovered that a 16-year-old female gunshot victim had arrived at a nearby fire station. Despite the best efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead on arrival at UAB hospital
Mauldin told AL.com that the teen victim had apparently just gotten off work at the Birmingham Zoo. She and her mother were returning home when the shots entered their vehicle from the same incident that killed the motorcyclist.
