BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Times has projected that Mayor Randall Woodfin will win re-election. Executive Editor Barnett Wright had said earlier that the newspaper’s exit polling indicated Woodfin was headed for a big night.
With 66% of boxes reporting, Woodfin had garnered 14,368 votes in building a 65.5 percent lean over his nearest challenger County Commissioner Lashunda Scales who had polled in 18.6 percent. Former mayor William Bell, who was in third place with 10 percent of the vote, congratulated Woodfin on his win.
Woodfin had previously served as president of the Birmingham City Schools Board of Education before being elected mayor in 2017.
