BIRMINGHAM — It looks like a foregone conclusion that The University of Texas and Oklahoma University will accept the invitation to join the Southeastern Conference extended Thursday following a virtual meeting between conference leadership and its member schools.
Associate SEC Commissioner Herb Vincent announced the invitations to the press via email today. If the offers are accepted, Texas and OU would join the conference in 2025, following the conclusion of their current contractual obligations with the Big 12. Their teams would begin SEC play in the 2025-2026 academic year.
The vote from the presidents and chancellors of the SEC was unanimous in support of inviting the two schools. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey communicated the invitations to the prospective institutions following today’s meeting.
