FULTONDALE — A father in Fultondale was killed Sunday morning as he tried to fight off three masked intruders who broke into the home while he and his family slept.

On Monday morning, Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates identified the victim as 55-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Garcia of Fultondale.
The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. on Stonefield Drive in the One Hundred Oaks mobile community. Smith said the activity was uncommon for Fultondale and the neighborhood. Robinson reported that the incident was the first homicide in Fultondale since 2016.
