MOODY — At a regular meeting on Monday, June 14, the Moody City Council approved a bid that will be the last of a sewer project that is being managed by Moody GUSC.

The meeting began with department heads giving their monthly reports for May, beginning with Moody Police and Moody Fire and Rescue.
In the police department, Chief Thomas Hunt reported that for the month of May there were 1,241 calls, 27 arrests, 161 warning tickets, 240 citations, 84 reports, 45 misdemeanors, 42 felonies, and 16,145 miles were driven by police vehicles. Hunt reported that expenses were $903.74 for car maintenance.
Fire Chief Larry Horton reported that there were 193 responses, five fires (one vehicle, four grass or rubbish), 13 wrecks, 115 emergency medical cars, 35 public service, seven lift assists, 18 false alarms and three mutual aid calls. Average dispatch to en route time was one minute, 58 seconds and average dispatch to arrival time was seven minutes and 13 seconds.
Horton said there were 48 annual inspections, 22 re-inspections, and a monthly fire company inspection.
Following department reports were several requests from Public Works and the police department that were approved, including for council member Linda Crowe to accompany the police department to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Oct. 14-17. The cost for this will be $1,200.
Later in the meeting discussion turned to the city’s ongoing sewer project. Moody GUSC requested that the city accept a bid from Powell Builders for the Moody Parkway gravity mail repair. The cost will be $253,606 with a rock clause of $16,394.
The repair will be the last in the effort to replace the mainline. The action was approved unanimously.
“This is to finish it,” said Mayor Joe Lee. “And that’ll give us a 12-inch line all the way from the crossroads to ADESA [at Sollie Dr.].”
Afterward, the council approved $4,177.50 to pay for signs to advertise the Moody Farmers Market. The cost will be reimbursed through an approved grant.
In other business the council:
- Approved a request from Public Works Director Steve Mitchell to purchase new tires for the lawnmower for $427.60,
- Approved Mitchell’s request to purchase bush hog blades for $1,300.90,
- Approved Hunt’s request to rotors, pads and LBA for car 342 for $334,
- Approved Hunt’s request for rotors, pads, front and rear for car 341 for $694.15,
- Approved Hunt’s request for up to $2,000 in uniform,
- Approved Hunt’s request for repairs to car 348 (transmission replacement) for $3,995,
- Approved an alcohol license for Moody Chevron located at 2902 Moody Parkway, and
- Approved a request from Jeremy and Stephanie Turner to annex their unincorporated St. Clair County property to Moody.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at Moody City Hall on 670 Park Ave.
