BIRMINGHAM — One man has been killed in a Thursday-morning shooting in west Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is holding the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
According to a release from the Birmingham Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Chevron station located at 2301 Ensley Avenue on a report of a person shot shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police say the preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been shot during an attempted theft. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
