JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened near the entrance of a cemetery in west Jefferson County.
Deputies said the shooting happened on Monday, March 1, 2021, near the entrance of Highland Memorial Gardens. The victim showed up to UAB Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Sgt. Joni Money. Birmingham Police responded and called in deputies to assist in the investigation.
Money said two people from out of town were visiting friends and family in the McCalla area. They stopped to pick up a friend of the victim and the victim and his friend began to argue.
“The vehicle was stopped at the cemetery and the two exited the vehicle and continued to argue,” said Money. “The suspect then shot the victim multiple times and fled the scene.”
The victim remains hospitalized and is in critical condition. Deputies did not provide a description of the shooter.
