Marland Dean Wordell born June 5, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama passed away peacefully on Tuesday Jan. 12 with his daughter Karen at his bedside.
Marland was a 1954 graduate of Tarrant High School. After graduation, he developed a diversified background in banking for his entire career eventually rising to the rank of President of The First Bank of Crestview, Florida. He enjoyed 13 years there as President before retiring in 1998.
Marland was a devoted follower of Christ and served his church well by providing financial guidance whenever needed. His love for family was obvious, especially at Christmas dinners when he led in prayer before partaking in his favorite low country boil every year.
A loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather, Marland was at his best when surrounded by his family. Let us not forget, Marland’s love for the Alabama Crimson Tide, fishing with his sons and all the four legged creations that occupied his life, especially Bob, Bear and Maggie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Allie Wordell and his son, Marland Brian Wordell. He is survived by his wife Doris Wordell of 35 years, sister Celeste (Wayne) Brown, son Steven Gregg (Sharron) Wordell, daughter Karen (Mark) Colicchio and daughter in-law Bobbie Wordell.
He gained children when he and Doris married including son Joel (Vicki) Chatham), Daughter Carla (Ray) Hintson and son Mike (Ellen) Chatham. Together they had 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren with another one due in July.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Pinson, 4036 Spring Street, Pinson, AL 35126 Monday, Jan. 18, with visitation at 11 am and service at noon.
