MONTGOMERY — Alabama Governor Kay Ivey took to Twitter on Wednesday, vowing not to shut down businesses as COVID-19 cases increase.
“You’re welcome, (Business Council of Alabama),” wrote Ivey in response to a post from the campaign. “I will not shut down businesses; the business community certainly has my support. As I’ve said many times, you cannot have a life without a livelihood. #KeepAlabamaOpen #TogetherAL #alpolitics.”
The Business Council of Alabama recently launched a campaign to “Keep Alabama Open,” which comes as talk of a nationwide shutdown continues. The council has provided a petition that individuals and businesses can sign, supporting an effort to keep Alabama open amid the pandemic.

According to reports, Alabama is closing in on 224,000 coronavirus cases and more than 1,200 hospitalizations. With holiday season approaching, health officials fear those numbers could climb.
