LEEDS — Heavy traffic buildup became a problem on Thursday for motorists traveling eastbound on I-20.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), those delays were due in part to pavement patching work that created lane closures between the Leeds exit (Milepost 140) and just east of the Brompton exit (Milepost 148). A construction accident was also reported in the area.
All travel lanes are expected to re-open at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Thursday. However, work will resume on Friday at 6 p.m. and continue until 8 a.m. Saturday. The same lane closures will be in place from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 through Tuesday, Nov. 24.
ALDOT advises motorists to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs and use extreme caution in this area.
