BIRMINGHAM — UAB’s home football game against North Texas has been canceled due to COVID-19.
The announcement was made by both schools on Thursday evening leading up to the game, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday at Legion Field in Birmingham.
“We are disappointed for our student-athletes that we won’t be playing our football game Saturday at UAB, especially since we were finally healthy and excited to get back to playing,” said North Texas Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker. “We understand the situation that UAB is in and we know that they are making this decision based on the health and safety of their student-athletes. We appreciate the communication with UAB and we look forward to hosting Rice next weekend.”
According to multiple reports, the game could be rescheduled although no dates have been announced.
“Although it is disappointing we cannot play this weekend, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans is the most important factor in our decision,” said UAB Athletics Director Mark Ingram. “These are unprecedented times and we appreciate the patience of our fan base as we navigate this situation together.”
The Blazers’ next scheduled game is set for Friday, Nov. 20 against UTEP at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland, Texas.
