TRUSSVILLE — Crews began the demolition of the former Joel’s Restaurant building on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020.
A new restaurant, Rodney Scott’s BBQ, will be built in its place, off Main Street in Trussville.
The old building deteriorated beyond repair. Before the demolition, Trussville Fire and Rescue was allowed to use the old building for training.
Rodney Scott’s is owned by the Pihakis Restaurant Group.
Rodney Scott got his start in Hemingway, South Carolina, when he was only 11 years old. He started smoking hogs at his family’s convenience store. Before long, Scott became known as the “Charleston BBQ Guy” and people would travel to get a taste of his whole hog barbecue. In 2016, Scott opened his first restaurant.
The restaurant offers whole hog barbecue, spare ribs, fried catfish, barbecue chicken, mac n’ cheese and other southern favorites, including banana pudding.
Rodney Scott was the 2018 winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southeast.
