TRUSSVILLE — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Trussville, despite Thanksgiving being weeks away.
People are decking their halls and putting up Christmas trees to brighten the end of 2020, a year full of dull moments. Along with the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 keeps giving grief in the form of murder hornets, social and economic challenges, destructive hurricanes and now a disputed presidential election.
While the anxiety of waiting to find out who our next president will be has crippled some, families like Lauren Taylor’s decided to spread holiday cheer a little early in hopes that some spirits could be raised.
“It just makes me happy,” said Taylor. “I’m doing this because 2020 has been such a hard year.”
Taylor said she is already seeing other people decorating as well. And she said her two children, Ava and Hagen, are also enjoying the view.
“I think a lot of people are decorating early because of coronavirus,” Taylor said. “It’s the lights and the coziness of the decorations that make us all smile.”
The Taylor’s and others in Trussville are not alone. Tesco’s Christmas Report showed that 2.4 million people plan to decorate early.
The nostalgia that comes along with Christmas decor can be enough to lighten the mood. Amid the pandemic, there is something to celebrate and that is the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Not to mention the fact that experts say decorating can boost your mental health.
So, if you see someone decorating early or singing Christmas songs before Thanksgiving, don’t be a grinch. Join in! You never know…you might end up smiling!
