BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department has conducted an investigation following a house fire that left two people dead in Birmingham last Friday, Oct. 23.
The investigation revealed Janette Cung suffered from injuries consistent with blunt force trauma along with smoke inhalation. The suspect — Cung’s husband Jonathan Cung — is believed to have committed suicide.
At approximately 4:02 a.m. last Friday, officers from East Precinct responded to a house fire at 1355 Hartford Drive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel discovered Janette and Jonathan lying on the floor unresponsive.
Jannette was pronounced dead at the scene and Jonathan was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at St. Vincent’s East.
