CLAY — A Clay teen is raising money for an organization that is close to her heart.
Clarissa Christian, a senior at Clay-Chalkville High School is a part of the Youth Development program in Birmingham. She is raising money for the Bennie G. Adkins Foundation, a non-profit that honors the legacy of those in the Special Forces by providing scholarships and aid for those transitioning from military to civilian life.
“Bennie G. Adkins was a military hero,” Christian said. “He was awarded the Medal of Honor by former President Barack Obama and that’s the highest military honor you can get and so we are trying to raise money for him and everything he does.”
There will be a fundraising event on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, on Mary Taylor Road.
“When they order, they tell them they are a part of the fundraiser and 15% will automatically go to the fundraiser,” Christian said.
Christian said her brother is in the military and she usually volunteers during the summer months at the Birmingham VA.
“I do a lot of volunteering and this summer I didn’t get to volunteer at the Birmingham VA because of COVID, so this is my way of volunteering again and help someone else out,” said Christian.
