Faye S. Nelson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020 surrounded by her family. Faye was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Myrtle Smith; her brother, James Smith, and two sons, Bruce and Chris Nelson. She is survived by Bobby Nelson; two daughters, Mona Gray-Gurtis and Susan Whitmire (Bobby); seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Faye enjoyed gardening and just the peace and beauty of nature. She loved to travel and got to see much of the U.S. giving her the opportunity to photograph many of the State and National Parks, monuments, trees, flowers, and skylines, often capturing many things that people would overlook. She found a passion for ancestry research as well, turning her into quite the detective on the computer and taking a few “Headstone Hopping” trips. She had really built quite a family tree. Her true legacy was her family. There was nothing that brought more joy than everyone gathering for “Family Feast” or “Bacon Saturday”. Any event, large or small, she really just enjoyed time with her family. A visitation will be held on Friday evening, October 2nd, at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 5 to 8 pm. Chapel services will be Saturday beginning at 11 am followed with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family invites all who knew her to come be with them as they lay her to rest.
