GARDEN CITY, Ala. — The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office has arrested four suspects after an early morning home invasion on Monday, Aug 17, 2020.
The sheriff’s office said the homeowners of a home in Garden City awoke to four people trying to break into their home.
“The suspects were met by armed homeowners and then the suspects exited the home followed by the homeowner,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Shortly there was an exchange of gunfire with one suspect being shot and now being treated in a regional hospital.”
Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and the Hanceville Police Department responded and detained two other suspects. A fourth suspect fled but was later captured.
“This is a great example of citizens utilizing their second amendment rights and protecting themselves and their family,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “I have often stated that law enforcement can be minutes away when you only have seconds to defend yourself and your family. That’s why we at the sheriff’s office are proponents of not only having a weapon for self-defense but also being proficient in how to use it.”
The identity of the suspects has yet to be released.
