CENTER POINT — The city of Center Point celebrated two ribbon cuttings in one night.
The city council meeting was held on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at the Center Point Fire District’s Station 1, near City Hall.
During the council meeting, city leaders cut the ribbon to the new storm shelter, which will hold 100 people. The storm shelter will be used any time there is a threat of severe weather.
The city also cut the ribbon for the new addition to Station 1. The city of Center Point added two bays to the station in order to make room for the ladder truck and bed space, according to Capt. Chris Horn.
“We usually run two rescue trucks out of that station,” Horn said. “So, one person would have to take 40 pounds of equipment across the parking lot to respond and that made the response time longer.”
The Battalion Chief’s vehicle will also be housed in the additional space.
