JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two suspects were taken into custody after a multi-county chase early Friday, June 26, 2020.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist both Marion County and Walker County deputies at 2 a.m. Friday. The chase ensued after the driver of the vehicle refused to stop for law enforcement in the Hamilton area.
The vehicle pursuit entered Jefferson County on Interstate 22.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying once deputies arrived on the scene, the vehicle had already crashed and two subjects had been apprehended.
Two additional subjects were apprehended later by the Jefferson County K-9 Unit and K-9 officers from Donaldson Correctional Facility.
Two of the subjects were taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham. Darryius Eugene Tompkins, 24, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for attempted murder. His bond was set at $60,000. Leeco Demon Whittington, 23, was charged with receiving stolen property first degree, possession of burglary tools and unlawful possession of marijuana second degree. His bonds total $36,000.
