MOODY — The Moody City Council convened on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, and approved the next step in the city’s push to purchase and install a storm shelter.
Moody will now begin accepting bids to install the storm shelter following the council’s unanimous approval to move forward with the project. The consideration was approved unanimously. Furthermore, Moody Mayor Joe Lee introduced the idea brought up by council members during the pre-council meeting of installing two storm shelters that would hold 80 to 100 people each, with one at Whites Chapel and one at Crossroads.
The council also unanimously approved the use of $2,000 out of the $10,000 approved in the Capital Budget Request to replace the police department’s 10-year-old carpet with new tile and approved the ordinance to regulate and control the use of public collection and donation sites throughout the city. Those public collection and donation sites encompass Goodwill boxes and others.
In other news, the council agreed to move forward with the O’Barr Road Drainage Project, which will not to exceed the $22,925.00 budgeted for the Capital Projects. That project will be funded from the Section 6 Capital Account. The council also agreed to enter into an agreement with the St. Clair County Commission to remove rumble strips and install solar caution lights for the stops at the intersection of County Road 10 and Markeeta Spur Road, and at County Road 10 and Annie Lee Road. The cost to the city will not exceed $3,900 from the Section 6 Capital Account. Moody and St. Clair County will share in future maintenance costs with Moody maintaining Whites Chapel and Annie Lee Road, and the County maintaining County Road 10 and Markeeta Spur Road.
The removal of the rumble strips and installation of solar caution lights will be done by St. Clair County.
