BIRMINGHAM – The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency has initiated a Joint Information Center following the state of emergency declarations from both the city of Birmingham and Jefferson County on Monday.
The Joint Information Center will allow the following agencies to work together to provide coordinated and accurate information on the coronavirus pandemic in the community: the city of Birmingham, Jefferson County Department of Health, Jefferson County Commission, Birmingham Airport Authority, United Way and the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency.
“Forming a Joint Information Center is a way for each agency to coordinate with each other and help each other with resources,” Director of the Jefferson County EMA Jim Coke said. “In time like this, providing clear concise communication is key to our citizens and that is what we are going to do.”
One of the first things citizens can do is text “InfoJeffco” to 888777 to be signed up to receive alerts on their phones. The Joint Information Center will also use #infojeffco and the city of Birmingham will use #bhamstrong for information on all social media outlets.
