UPDATE — The Alabama Recreation and Parks Association’s annual state basketball tournament that was to be hosted throughout various sites around Trussville this weekend has been canceled.
Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat made the decision early Friday morning.
In addition, the March bicentennial event at the Senior Center scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
The Senior Center will also be closed until March 30.

TRUSSVILLE — The Alabama Recreation and Parks Association will hold its annual state basketball tournament this weekend in Trussville, Alabama.
The three-day tournament welcomes youth and recreation teams throughout Alabama for a chance to claim the title within their respective divisions. Over 100 teams from all corners of the Yellowhammer State will participate in this year’s tournament set to be hosted in various venues throughout Trussville and Pinson.
The event consists of 11 divisions between both boys and girls.

The tournament will officially tip off on Friday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. and conclude on Sunday. The games will be shared between multiple venues: The Trussville Civic Center, Hewitt-Trussville High School, Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, Cherokee Gym, Cahaba Elementary School, Magnolia Elementary School, The Athletic Center, First Baptist Church, Clay-Chalkville High School, Clay-Chalkville Middle School and Crosspoint Church.
Trussville residents should be aware that traffic and parking will be impacted throughout this weekend.
The cost for a team to participate was $150. The cost of attendance will be $5 per person.
The city of Trussville will be represented in the 8U Boys Tournament, the 10U Boys Tournament, the 12U Boys Tournament, the 13-14 Boys Tournament and the 15-18 Boys Tournament.
