TRUSSVILLE — Shades Valley had no answer for a locked-in Hewitt-Trussville baseball team on a chilly Friday afternoon in what was the Huskies’ 2020 home opener.
Behind a dominant pitching performance from 2019 All-State First Team selection Tyler Mauldin, Hewitt-Trussville silenced the Mounties, 12-0, to move to 2-1 on the season in what was a bounce back game following an 0-2 loss to Wetumpka on Monday.
Mauldin pitched a no-hitter through five innings. In that span, the senior struck out 14. His continued success on the mound follows a 2019 season where the Northwest Florida State College commit went 6-1, recorded a 2.49 ERA with 42 strikeouts.
Proud of Ty and all the Huskies tonight. Military appreciation night and Ty throws a 14 strikeout no hitter and we won 12-0. Pretty good way to say thank you for your service. Game ball goes to our favorite veteran- Papa #proudmom #thankavet pic.twitter.com/jBt2ieSJ4s

Mauldin was aided by an offense that teed off on Shades Valley pitchers to the tune of nine runs in just two innings. The onslaught commenced with a Jackson Holland single in the first inning, which was followed by a Trey Burrell bases-loaded walk and a Keith Lanum double that knocked in two more.
Hewitt-Trussville would proceed to pad its lead with five more runs in the second inning.
Holland finished the game with two hits and three runs batted in. Gavin Ellison recorded two RBI.
Dating back to last season, the Huskies have won 20 out of 24 games.
