BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a deadly shooting in east Jefferson County.
Deputies were called to the scene at a home in the 1200 block of Birchwood Street, at 8:35 p.m., on Feb. 21, 2020.
The victim, Avonte Damall Washington, 19, was found dead on the scene.
Witnesses said the suspect knew the victim and that the suspect was also shot as he fled the scene. Birmingham Police officers found the suspect on a road nearby. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has not released the identity of the suspect.
