TRUSSVILLE — A Trussville native won first place in the 2020 Alabama All-State Middle School Jazz Band, for the guitar category.
Wesley Patterson, a 13-year-old student at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, recently performed in Montgomery at the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference.
Patterson has been playing guitar for about five years, according to his parents, Shane and Tamantha Patterson. The eighth-grader majors in Classical Guitar at the ASFA. Before attending ASFA, Patterson was a student in Trussville City Schools for grades 1-6.
His parents said his musical talent started with an acoustic guitar, but he has been playing jazz for about a year and a half.
“We are mostly proud of his determination and hard work,” said Shane Patterson. “Believe us, any goal he achieves is due to a persistent work ethic and having much passion and appreciation for music.”
