SPRINGVILLE — Following a 2018 season that ushered in its fair share of challenges, the senior team in the Springville Youth Football League claimed the championship this season after going 9-0. The tribulations throughout that 2018 season set the foundation for this season’s title run.
“(The 2018 season) was a pivotal year for us that gave rise to our team this season,” the senior team head coach Blake Hunter said. “I was a first time head coach and struggled to find 11 kids to sign up to play (as most parks are struggling to do nowadays). Those 11 kids fought all the way to the playoff semi-final and finished with a 6-3 record; their success led to more than 30 kids signing up to play this year. This year, my guys took on the same attitude of hard work and brotherhood, which culminated in a perfect, 9-0, championship season. I am looking forward to the continuing growth of Springville Youth Football in 2020.”
At the same time, the sophomore team in the Springville Youth Football League also went undefeated, 9-0, following a season in which it entered the championship game having allowed just 30 total points all year. In the end, the sophomore squad, led by head coach Derrick Williamson, brought home the Blount County Youth Football Sophomore Champion Trophy.
Their rise followed a 2018 season in which they finished in second place. This season the team dominated, outscoring its opponents 251-30 entering the title game.
