TRUSSVILLE — A Margaret woman is facing charges after an incident reported at Walmart, in Trussville Crossings, on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019.
The Trussville Police Department responded to a shoplifting call at 6:12 a.m. A loss prevention officer at Walmart told police a woman tried to leave the store with a wireless printer, packs of paper, scissors, candy, a wallet and other items, totaling a value of $360.88.
As police began to question the accused woman, they said they found three pills in her jacket. According to a police report, the officer said the woman told them the pills were Xanax and Vyvanse. The woman was identified as Mary Angel Tutton, 40, of Margaret. Tutton told police she had a prescription for the medication but that she didn’t like carrying her prescription medication in bottles because she didn’t want to be a victim of theft.
Tutton was placed under arrest and is facing charges of theft of property fourth degree and possession of a controlled substance.
She will be given the opportunity to defend her claim that the pills were prescribed to her when she appears in court to answer to the charges. A court date has not been set. Tutton is innocent until proven guilty.
