BIRMINGHAM – Multiple people were injured following a crash on Saturday night in Five Points West after a suspect ran a red light during a police chase.
According to media reports, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Bessemer Road. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team, SNET, along with a crew from Live PD pursued a suspect after deputies attempted a traffic stop and the suspect fled.
The suspect then sped through a red light at the main Five Points West intersection, crashed into an oncoming vehicle, which led to a chain reaction where seven vehicles were hit. Some of those vehicles sustained heavy damage, according to AL.com.
Multiple people were taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. At least one of those individuals has serious injuries.
